The Inhibition of Frostbite Wheals by the Iontophoresis of Antihistaminic Agents.

چکیده
Skin whealing associated with localized frostbite is a well recognized phenomenon and has been described in detail by Lewis and his co-workers (1, 2). Although no positive evidence of histamine liberation in frostbite has been advanced, it has been postulated that histamine or a histaminelike sulbstance is involved in the formation of these lesions (2). Recently. Frommel and Picquet have reported beneficial results from the antihistaminic drug, dimethylaminoethyl-ethylbenzylaniline hydrochloride (Antergan), in the treatment of frostbite in guinea pigs (3). The inhibition of histamine wheals by the oral or intradermal administration of beta-dimethylaminoethyl benzhydryl ether (Benadryl, Parke-Davis) and N'pyridil-N'benzyl-N'dimethylethylenediaminie hydrochloride (Pyribenzamine, Ciba) has been demonstrated conclusively (4-6). A similar inhibition can be achieved locally by the iontophoresis of Pyribenzamine (7). In an effort to gain additional information regarding the role of histamine in the pathogenesis of local frostbite, we have studied experimentally produced frostbite lesions before and after the iontophoretic administration of Benadryl and Pvrihenzamine. The results obtained are presented in this paper.

Synergistic Effect of Chemical Enhancer And Iontophoresis For Transdermal Delivery Of Nebivolol Hydrochloride
The aim of the present study was to develop and investigate the feasibility of delivering Nebivolol as a transdermal patch by iontophoresis. The passive and electrically assisted transdermal delivery of Nebivolol hydrochloride by iontophoresis will improve the therapeutic efficacy and overcome the difficulties raised in oral drug delivery. Because of its extensive hepatic metabolism and low dos...
متن کاملEnhanced Transdermal Delivery of Granisetron by Using Iontophoresis
The purpose of the present study was to explore the passive and electrically assisted transdermal transport of Granisetron hydrochloride (GRA) in solution and gel formulation through iontophoresis and also the feasibility of delivering therapeutic amounts of drug for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. In this study, iontophoretic permeation of GRA through guinea pig...
متن کاملLevocetirizine: pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in children age 6 to 11 years.
BACKGROUND The pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of medications may differ between children and adults, necessitating different dose regimens for different age groups. Levocetirizine, the active enantiomer of cetirizine, is used in the treatment of allergic rhinitis and chronic urticaria in Europe. Its pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics have not yet been studied prospectively in school-a...
متن کاملOn-site Management of Frostbite in the Himalayas
Introduction: Frostbite is a common debilitating condition seen in travelers and residents at high altitudes. Emergent on-site management is warranted in the absence of institutionalized care and compromised evacuation facilities. This prospective, observational study assessed the outcome of on-site emergent management in low-resource, high altitude healthcare setups in the fie...
متن کاملThe unusual association of Graves' disease, chronic spontaneous urticaria, and premature ovarian failure: report of a case and HLA haplotype characterization.
Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), defined as the occurrence of spontaneous wheals for more than six weeks, has been associated with autoimmune diseases. Herein, we report the unusual association of CSU, Graves' disease, and premature ovarian failure. Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) studies were performed. A 36-year-old woman presented symptoms and signs of hyperthyroidism for three months. In ...
